2005-11-21 - 11:29 p.m. hi. erm, in case you were wondering, i am neither hard of hearing, nor suffer from any specific memory disorder. i realise that you have a law degree, mostly because you have mentioned it in all three of our conversations. while i applaud your achievements and commitment, i might just point out that i'm not gobsmacked-impressed. this might smooth things out between us in any future dealings. and another thing, you know a law degree doesn't necessarily make you smart? that's not what the degree's about. oddly enough, higher education in this country still has the vestiges of a system whereby you had to be reasonably bright before you got in. crazy, no? the point of the degree isn't to make you smarter, it is to give you education. [and introducing the intellectual snob] now personally, i don't mind if you're pissing other people off by interrupting conversations to toss your mortarboard. their issues are none of my business, and i'm afraid that i don't know you well enough to much care if you make a tit of yourself in public. i'm just personally affronted by your assumption that your choice of degree makes you smarter than me because of my choice of degree. please consider the word "choice". i used to do my homework in school, so while i missed the marks to get into the top law degree in the state, i overqualified to get into your third-degree institution course. yes, this is tremendously petty. but if you're going to try to lord it over me intellectually, at least beat me at scrabble first. |
