2005-04-08 - 8:04 p.m. i'm going to see Tori *yay*! i like to think there's a secret international community of people who get a bit flustered and bewildered by ordinary modern life. when i finally got through to the booking lady, i'd just washed an apple and was cutting up banana cake, having been on hold for about 20 mins (and should have left for work 30mins before, thank goodness friday's always slow and there's no one around to inconvenience), so i was a bit flailing and garbly. perhaps she'd already spoken to lots of people in similar straits, but she was very determined in hunting good seats for me, and even actually said "congratulations! you are now the proud owner of two Tori Amos tickets!". you're telling me people are that great without some kind of underground conspiracy? fie unto thee. bless her socks nonetheless. at work i finally got hold of someone i'd been chasing for a couple of weeks (she'd been out of town, and i think i kept calling during their lunchtime). i started off semi-professionally, good phone voice and all, trying to get a cost estimate. it was so pleasing that she hmmmd and hrrrd and nearly whined because she's so busy already at the moment (something to do with a French-posh Australian accent, does a fantastic whinge), i think i made her feel better by being unable to answer some of her very basic questions. we had what could only be described as a chuckle together, of somewhat rueful quality. her cost estimate ended up being "whatever the other guy says, but you'll have to wait for him to get back from PNG". some days i think i'm almost in the right career area. |
